Respiration

Storyboard

Respiration is the process by which plants and other organisms release energy from stored sugars and other organic compounds, using oxygen and producing carbon dioxide as byproducts.

Cellular Respiration: Plants engage in cellular respiration to provide energy for growth, maintenance, and reproduction. It occurs in mitochondria.

Aerobic vs. Anaerobic Respiration: Most plant respiration is aerobic, requiring oxygen. Under oxygen-deprived conditions, plants may resort to anaerobic respiration, which is less efficient.

Energy Allocation: Plants allocate energy derived from respiration to various physiological processes, including growth, root maintenance, and defense mechanisms.
