Mechanical diagnosis evaluates the biomechanical behavior of the masticatory system: the distribution of occlusal loads, dental mobility, muscle forces and joint pressures. The key instruments are: occlusal registration with articular paper (which identifies contacts and their intensity by the size of the mark), the T-Scan III (digital system that measures the relative strength and temporal distribution of occlusal contacts in real time), the periodontometer (which quantitatively measures tooth mobility under a standard force), electromyography (EMG) of the chewing muscles (which measures muscle activity during chewing, clenching and grinding), and bite analysis with sensors of strength. The biomechanical model of the mandibular lever allows the calculation of the reaction force in the TMJ and the distribution of loads between the teeth from the muscle geometry and the recorded bite forces. Measured variables: bite force, dental mobility, EMG signal. Determined values: occlusal distribution, joint torques, mechanical safety factor.
