D6 Analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF, lumbar puncture)

Title

Analysis of CSF obtained by lumbar puncture provides direct information on intracranial pressure, immunological status, and the integrity of the blood-brain barrier. The opening pressure is directly related to the intracranial pressure introduced in the TBI and brain tumor models (A6, A14), while the CSF volume results from the dynamic balance between its production and reabsorption. The cell count (pleocytosis) reflects the degree of inflammation or infection present, extending the neuroinflammation variable of M07, and the CSF/plasma glucose ratio is characteristically reduced in bacterial infections due to microbial consumption. Total protein concentration increases when the blood-brain barrier is damaged (direct extension of A14/M07 permeability), and the oligoclonal band index quantifies intrathecal synthesis of immunoglobulins, a central marker in the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (A4). CSF is also the biological reference matrix for the specific biomarkers of the D8 series.
