D3 Positron emission tomography (PET)
Title
PET quantifies specific metabolic or molecular processes through the administration of a radiotracer whose tissue kinetics are described with standard compartmental models: a free tracer compartment in tissue that exchanges with plasma, and optionally a compartment of specific binding to receptors or target proteins (for example, amyloid or tau tracers, binding to D8 biomarkers). The standardized uptake value (SUV) is the semiquantitative metric most used in clinical practice, while the binding potential more specifically quantifies the density of available binding sites. The FDG-PET variant, based on the Sokoloff model, allows estimating the regional cerebral metabolic rate of glucose, a measure sensitive to early neuronal dysfunction in series A neurodegenerative pathologies.
