D2 Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI, BOLD signal)

Title

fMRI indirectly measures neuronal activity through the BOLD signal, whose complete formulation was introduced in the neurovascular coupling model (E11). The standard statistical analysis of these data uses a general linear model (GLM), where the time series observed in each voxel is explained as a linear combination of regressors derived from the experimental design convolved with the canonical hemodynamic response function, allowing the generation of statistical activation maps. The temporal signal-to-noise ratio quantifies the quality of the acquisition, while in resting-state studies, functional connectivity is estimated by the correlation between the BOLD time series of different regions, a measure widely used to characterize network alterations in A series pathologies (for example A7, A11).
