Measurement of respiratory volumes and flows using a spirometer (differential flow or displacement sensor). It directly operationalizes the parameters of the E8 model, measuring the resistance of the pathways (R_pathway) through FEV1 and the flow-volume pattern, and pulmonary compliance through FVC. It is the standard diagnostic tool to classify and quantify respiratory problems in the A6 model.
