A1 Pathological Alar Loading
Title
A1 models the effect of an abnormal increase in body massdue to obesity, solid tumors, tissue edema, or artificial external loading (rings, oversized transmitters)on the aerodynamic and energy performance of the bird. The central physical principle is simple: lift must balance weight in horizontal flight, so any increase in W requires greater C_L, greater speed, or greater muscle power. The model calculates how the power curve P(V) shifts up and to the right, what new stall speed appears, and at what point the deficit between available power (E12) and required power makes sustained flight impossible. It is the reference model to evaluate the impact of telemetry equipment in field studies and to diagnose clinical obesity in captive birds.
