Tools that measure leaf temperature and the energy balance of the plant: contact thermocouples, thermal infrared cameras for T_leaf maps, heat flow and radiation sensors to close the energy balance, and the plant calorimeter to measure metabolic heat production. They operationalize the E3 model and allow the diagnosis of thermal stress and stomatal state based on leaf temperature as an integrating variable.
