Tools that measure the capture and use of photosynthetic radiation: PAR quantum sensors, the PAM fluorimeter to diagnose PSII status, the IRGA for full A-I curves, hemispheric photography for canopy LAI, and solar induced fluorescence (SIF) from satellite to measure regional GPP. They operationalize the E2 model and allow the detection of chronic photoinhibition, light deficit and spatial variation of the photosynthetic state with resolution from the leaf to the ecosystem.
