Disturbance of tropisms

Storyboard

Tropisms (E11) and movements (E13) are disturbed when the physical signals that guide them (light, gravity, mechanical contact) are anomalous or when the response mechanisms (polar auxin transport, pulvinus turgor) are dysfunctional. Causes include hormonal imbalances (excess ethylene, auxin deficiency), mechanical damage to the pulvinus, microgravity, and mutations in photoreceptors (phototropins, phytochromes) or the auxin transport system (PIN proteins).
