Light deficiency and photoinhibition
Storyboard
Light deficit (insufficient irradiance to maintain A_neta > 0) and photoinhibition (excess light that damages PSII) are two opposite extremes of the E2 model. Both reduce productivity: the deficit due to lack of photochemical energy, photoinhibition due to accumulated damage to the photosynthetic apparatus (PSII protein D1). The analysis of the A-I curve and chlorophyll fluorescence (Fv/Fm, NPQ) allows us to distinguish between both conditions and quantify the current damage and the potential for recovery.
