Drought and water stress

Storyboard

Drought is the breakdown of the water balance of the SPAC (E1) when the evaporative demand (high VPD, E8) exceeds the supply capacity of the soil (k_soil drop, E5). The decrease in _leaf triggers a cascade of responses: stomatal closure, growth reduction (loss of turgor, before photosynthesis), xylem embolism (cavitation) and finally irreversible cell damage or death. The isohydric or anisohydric strategy of the species determines the sequence and intensity of these responses.
