Chemical exchange
Storyboard
It models the flows of chemical compounds between the plant and its environment: the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs: isoprene, mono and sesquiterpenes) as a response to thermal stress and herbivory, the release of radical exudates as a nutritional and defense strategy, allelopathic signaling between neighboring plants, and the absorption of atmospheric pollutants (O, SO). Chemical exchange is the communication interface of the plant with its ecosystem.
