It models the mechanical properties of plant tissues: the resistance of wood (cellulose-lignin composite) as a material, the stability of the stem under wind loads (bending, buckling), and the role of turgor in the rigidity of non-lignified tissues. Plant biomechanics explains everything from the erect posture of grassesmaintained by hydrostatic pressureto the resistance of trees to storms, which depends on the density and geometry of the wood.
