D10 Load and Fatigue
Title
The diagnosis of fatigue and training load integrates mechanical, physiological and psychological indicators to quantify the functional status of the athlete and the risk of injury due to overuse. The external load (kilos lifted, kilometers traveled, number of impacts) is combined with the internal load (RPE, heart rate, lactate) to estimate the real physiological stress. Banister's fitness-fatigue model predicts performance as the difference between cumulative positive adaptation and cumulative fatigue, both modeled as exponential responses to load. The acute-chronic load ratio (Gabbett's ACR) quantifies the risk of injury: ACR > 1.5 indicates a sudden, untolerated increase in load. Mechanically, fatigue is detected by the drop in leg stiffness (k_leg), the increase in contact time, the reduction in RSI and the alteration of the GRF pattern. Measured variables: RPE, HR, lactate, GPS (distance, speed), force platform, accelerometers. Determined values: TRIMP load, ACR, Banister model, mechanical indicators.
